REMEMBER: To be eligible to donate on August 25 or 26, you must have donated blood no later than June 30, 2009 (56 days prior to August 25).

“Donating blood is a priceless act of generosity.  What’s even better?  It costs nothing but time to make a donation.  I look forward to personally greeting each and every donor this August,” said Stephen Singer, president of Merchants Automotive Group and chairman of the Gail Singer Memorial Blood Drive Committee.

“Thank you to all of our sponsors, partners—and especially the donors—who continue to make this drive successful year after year,” he added.  “My sister-in-law would be proud.”

Highlights from 2008:

  • 1,365 donors were pre-registered

  • 1,135 pints of blood were collected

  • 156 first-time donors were registered

  • One donor donated blood for the first time at the age of 86!

Did you know ....you are now eligible to donate blood at the age of 16?  With parental/guardian permission (http://www.newenglandblood.org/nh/sixteen.htm), more and more high school students are helping to save lives!  To thank New Hampshire’s youth for making a blood donation, all donors ages 16-18 will receive a free $10 iTunes gift card at the GSMBD!

FREE registration for those interested in joining the National Marrow Donor Program will be held in conjunction with this blood drive!

Leukemia is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood.  And if you’re willing to be tested as a marrow match, you can help in the fight against the disease.

Helping someone in need of a bone marrow transplant is now easier than ever.  In fact, in just 20 minutes time, you can be screened to see if you’re a potential match.  The Gail Singer Memorial Blood Drive is pleased to waive the screening fee for anyone ages 18-60 interested in being screened at this year’s drive.

When you arrive at the blood drive please be sure to inform the registration desk that you are interested in being screened.   All it takes is a couple of minutes to fill out the registration forms and provide basic demographic and health information.  Your cheek will then be swabbed and your information will be registered with the National Registry.

If and when it is determined you are a match, you will receive a call from the National Registry.  Approximately 1% of the people who have been tested have been contacted as a match.  If you are found to be a match and would like to proceed with further donation screening, you will then be asked to participate in additional blood tests as well as a physical exam.  More in-depth information will be provided to you about the donation process, as well.
